Beijing: The attempt to clear the air between India and Pakistan have been seen as a positive step by China. China on Saturday welcomed the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counter part Nawaz Sharif, asserting that the meeting will promote peace in South Asia.
Speaking to the media, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang, said that the Chinese side welcomes the latest development in the Pakistan-India relationship.
The surprise visit made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been taken with the right stride by many. Lu Kang said both the nations are important in South Asia and a good bilateral relationship will bring significant peace, stability and development to South Asia. "As the common neighbor and friend of both Pakistan and India, China is happy to see and will support, as always, Pakistan and India to enhance mutual trust and achieve common development through continuous dialogue," said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang.
