Government approves inking of MoU with Bloomberg Philanthropies on Smart Cities.


smart-city-goodOn account of the ensuring the fast progress and developments of smart cities, the government earlier today approved the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Urban Development Ministry and Bloomberg Philanthropies.

A meeting convened by the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal which entails Bloomberg Philanthropies, New York, to work as Knowledge Partner. They will be on the threshold of development and execution of the cities challenges under the smart cities mission.

The cabinet has already approved the Smart Cities Mission in April this year and was launched by the Prime Minister on June 25. The proposal so far under the aegis of the Smart Cities Mission seeks to facilitate creation of quality urban life with improved life style. So far the proposal hold a total of 100 smart cities across the country out of which 20 will be selected in the first phase in 2016.

As Knowledge Partner, Bloomberg Philanthropies will also support the UD Ministry in helping design and manage the cities challenge. There is no financial implication to the Centre as the cost implications to the activities done in supporting the Mission will be incurred by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
