While student organizers are hailing victory of their symbolic protest against growing intolerance and communal enmity in the country, the police claimed that they foiled the student group’s attempts.

Curfew like situation prevailed following the detention of few students as well as the BJP leader Raja Singh who had earlier threatened to kill the organizers I f a beef festival was conducted in the campus. Mr. Singh is the BJP MLA from Goshamahal, Hyderabad.

As one group of students planned for the beef fest on Thursday, coinciding with the World Human Rights Day, another group came up with their intention of holding a pork festival.

“We successfully stopped them from organizing the festival on the campus. We have taken a few people into custody. They will be released soon.” Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Zone), A Ravinder said to PTI.

Meanwhile, the beef fest organizing groups, mainly belonging to the leftist Students Federation of India, intimidated by the bourgeoning police presence, have decided to hold the protest inside their hostels by cooking pork and beef dishes. University and police authorities failed to protect our rights in choosing what we eat”.

The police could block the students from going outside or letting any outsider inside the campus with an effective trooping. The University authorities too have asked the students not to spoil the academic atmosphere in the campus.
