Actor Aamir Khan will be replaced by Actors Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra as the new ambassadors of the Incredible India campaign. The two Bollywood stars will market the country to all those outside India.

Sources said that Amitabh Bachchan, 73, was reportedly the suggested name from the PMO’s office. Currently, he is the ambassador of Gujarat Tourism.

Reports note that Amitabh Bachchan was recruited directly by after Aamir Khan was removed. Aamir Khan has earlier this year projected his dissent and suggested that India was experiencing growing religious intolerance.

Although Aamir Khan was stressing that he had been the campaign spokesperson for 10 years, he accepted with utmost respect the government’s decision to be removed from the position.

“I respect the decision of the government to discontinue with my services,” Aamir Khan had said.

In November, last year, Aamir Khan had expressed concern about intolerance being displayed towards minorities. He was attacked on social media by many as “anti-national” for his remarks.

He had said that his wife, Kiran Rao, was so concerned about the atmosphere of intolerance that she had wondered out loud about relocating from India.
