The Oscar winner dedicated his nomination to the Delhi gang rape victim.
The award ceremony will be held on February 27, a day before the Oscar nights, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
India's Daughter, a controversial documentary which recounts the story of infamous Delhi gang rape, was written, produced and directed by film maker Leslee Udwin. The film was globally aired on March 4 but censor board banned it in India.
Raj Amit Kumar's début movie Unfreedom, featuring Adil Hussain and Victor banerjee, is a thriller chronicling lesbian love story. The movie was inspired by Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem " Ye Dagh Dagh Ujaala". Unfreedom has been nominated in Feature Film - Foreign Film (Sound Effects, Foley, Dialogue and ADR) category.
Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant and Star Wars: The Force Awakens won three nominations. The popular TV series Game of Thrones also won a trio.
Mentioning about the movie ban, Pookutty said that he is pained at the suppression of artistic freedom and he dont understand why a progressive society is behaving in a strict manner. He also added that the recognition outside India for these films indicates that we have to be open minded as artistes.
