hema-malini RTI activist describes actress Hema Malini’s plan to start a dance academy in Mumbai’s Andheri area as “land grabbing”.

According to the RTI obtained by activist Anil Galgali, BJP MP Hema Malini was allotted a plot worth 50 crores of rupees for mere 70,000 rupees. Exactly, before a month Hema Malini was allotted 20,000 square-metre plot in the Oshiwara area for her dance academy.

Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chawan accuses BJP’s action is of double standards and is violating rules. While speaking to reporters, he said that BJP government earlier said they will formulate a fresh policy on granting government lands. But, in the case of a BJP MP, no such procedure was followed.

Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse,in response to the controversy, said that Hema Malini was allotted the land in 1997 but was unable to start the project because of environmental laws. In 2010, She was then allotted the plot by the Congress -led government. The BJP government just followed the commitment made by the previous government.

The activist claimed that it is the second time Hema Malini has been alloted a plot in the Mumbai suburbs. Earkier in 1997, Shiv Sena government had allotted her a land in Mumbai, but she was unable to develop it because of Coastal Regulation Zone issues.

Social Media is widely mocking this issue under the hashtag#HemaLandGrab. Social media is criticising these discounted land sale by politicians and demanding to alllot the land for thousands of homeless needy people.
