Peshawar: Sources from Pakistan have reported that at least 10 people have been killed and about 20 have been injured in a bomb explosion in Peshawar on Tuesday.
The explosion took place near the Karkhano Market area close to the security check post and near to the gateway to Peshawar from the tribal belt.
Reports stated that most of the dead include personnel from the Khyber Khasadar Force.
“Although the exact nature of the blast is being ascertained, it appears to be a suicide attack,” said political agent Khyber Agency Shahab Ali Shah.
The explosion is said to have killed the assistant line officer Nawabshah and president of the Tribal Union of Journalists Mehmoob Shah.
An emergency has been imposed at Hayatabad hospital. Those injured have been transferred to the emergency ward.
Khyber is part of Pakistan’s semi-autonomous tribal belt on the Afghan border. The area is known to have been a militant stronghold in the past.
