Pathankot attack and The diplomatic friendship
India has provided fresh leads relating to the Pathankot airbase attack, said Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif.Islamabad was verifying the facts. These, he said, would help in punishing the culprits.
“India has provided fresh leads (on Pathankot attack) and we will examine them. We are investigating and verifying the leads. Once we are done with that we would bring the facts forward. Along with that, we have also formed a special investigating team (SIT) which would go toIndia to gather evidence,” Sharif said in London on his arrival from Davos.
“I called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he had offered all possible help in bringing the culprits to justice. We are going on the right path and I hope the culprits will be brought to justice soon,” said Sharif who conceded that progresshad often been slow.
Pakistani National Security Advisor Lt Gen Naseer Khan Janjua on January 5 had called up his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval during which they discussed “0specific and actionable information” related to the Pathankot terror strike.
The duo spoke about various information and leads, like the Pakistani numbers which the attackers had called and their intercepts with India asserting that an effective action on part of Pakistan was important.
Sharif said Pakistan would continue the fight against militants. “We will fulfil this responsibility,” he said.
The attack bore a resemblance to the December, 2014 Peshawar school attack in which more than 150 persons, mostly children, were killed, prompting the government to launch a National Action Plan cracking down on militancy
