Union Minister of Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya on Wednesday clarified that he did not pressurized the Hyderabad University to suspend any student and his role was only limited to forwarding two representations he received from the ABVP to the ministry of Human Resource and Development.
Mr Dattathreya along with the Hyderabad University VC has been named in an FIR lodged to the Police regarding the suicide of Rohit Vemula.
Bandaru Dattathreya, an MP from Secunderabad, said that the Hyderabad University is an autonomous institution with established procedures and he have no role in the administration of the University.
"Apart from being a Union Minister, I am also an elected member of parliament from secunderabad constituency. Since my entry into politics in 80’s, I have always been a leader connected to the masses & to all sections of the society on a daily basis, whether or not in any positions of power. Taking representations from common people, constituents & forwarding it to concerned ministries is what I consider my earnest responsibility by being an elected people’s representative" he said in a Press Statement issued at Hyderabad.
In his letter to Smriti Irani,Dattatreya describes the University as a den of casteist, extremist and anti national politics. While many of the student organizations including left parties jointly protested against Yakub Memon's death, Bandaru Dattatreya specially blamed the Ambedkar Student Association in his letter.
