Shimla: The temperature drops down, in places in and around North India. Delhi witnesses snowfall accompanied by rain in Delhi, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
The capital saw rain pellets slightly falling during the day with strong winds. and which was a pleasing and soothing for Delhites with snowfall as the day advanced. The temperature dropped down to a 22.2 degree Celsius during the day and pushing down to 13, the lowest, quite different from the seasonal temperature for same time of the year.
The rainfall measured upto 0.1 mm for daytime with a mist settled in the atmosphere. The first heavy snowfall was reported for Shimla for the year though tribal areas of the hilly Himachal regions received continuous snow not comparable to the amount in Shimla. The afternoons of Rohtang, Kunzam, Chansel and Saach received 40 cm to 50 cm of snow. While Churdhar ranges in Sirmaur and Dhauladhar ranges in Kangra recieved 45 cm of snow.
The lowest snow received was for Keylong with 20 cm of snow.
Shimla recorded 18 cm of snow, while Kufri, Fagu, Narkanda, and kharapatthar, Chopal, Haripurdhar and Nauradhar recorded about 20 m to 35 cm snow.
Within a day or two, the incessant temperatures shot down to a range from 6 to 10 degree Celsius.
The India-Tibet National Highway was blocked after Shimla due to heavy snowfall and many vehicles were trapped due to a traffic block as a result. A Meteorological Department official confirmed that Srinagar saw light snowfall and rains in a few areas along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
