Chief Minister Oommen Chandy presented the 2016-2017 Kerala budget after a gap of 29 years in the state. In spite of the protests from the opposition party CPI(M) led LDF who demanded the CM’s resignation amidst the solar, and bar bribery scam.
The budget was presented by the CM himself after the finance minister K M Mani had resigned in November 2015 after the remark on the his involvement in the bar bribery case.
The budget highlighted the various achievements including the Kochi Metro, Kannur airport projects and the achievements in the five-year rule.
The budget break-up of Rs 24000 Crore for 2016-2017 for some of the sought-after departments are as follows.
The electricity board has been allotted Rs 1622 Crore.
Knowledge city – Rs 425 Crore,
Smart City project – Rs 25 Crore
Transport-Rs 121.5 Crore
Coconut –Rs 45 Crore
Sea-Port road – Rs 100 Crore
Agriculture-Rs 746 Crore
Public-Private Partnership(PPP) – Rs 2500 Crore
Mullaperiyar Dam – Rs 100 Crore
