Major Casualty Averted During “Make in India” Celebrations
The main stage where the cultural programme of “Make in India” week was planned to celebrate got engulfed in huge fire in Mumbai today. There were repertoires of Bollywood celebrities, senior government officials, including CM Devendra Fadnavis, Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao and Amitabh Bachchan, in attendance.
Though the exact reason for the mishap is not known, a short circuit is suspected as the cause. Apparently the fire broke out while the artists were performing on the stage.
According to the reports no casualties were reported. Strong winds have reportedly fanned the fire even as fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the blaze.
At least 14 fire tenders and 10 water tankers were pressed into service. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stayed back at the site to oversee the evacuation of people.
Other famous people who were present at the event included actors Hema Malini, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif, Udhav Thakrey and his family, among others. The Make in India Week is being organised in Mumbai, which brought together industrialists from different parts of the country to discuss ways to make India the world’s manufacturing hub.
The programme has been called off.
