Lady prisoner in Vietnam gets pregnant to avoid death sentence
Vietnam: Four prison guards in Vietnam have been reportedly suspended over the alleged negligence right after an inmate who was on death row became pregnant. As per reports, the inmate inseminated herself with the help of a male inmate, to escape from the death penalty.
The police, however, has not commented on this event. The lady inmate’s sentence is expected to be changed to life imprisonment for bearing a child under three years old.
Officials stated that the inmate bought the sperms from a 27-year-old from a male inmate for $2,300 (£1,600).
The syringes and semen was handed over to the lady inmate twice in August last year. She is expected to give birth in April.
Vietnamese legislation says that a pregnant woman or a mother whose child is less than three years old cannot be executed, and the sentence should be commuted to life imprisonment. A similar case was reported in 2007, wherein two guards in northern province of Hoa Binh were themselves send to prison for allowing a female inmate on death row to get pregnant with a male inmate, allowing her to avoid death sentence.
