Kanyakumari- Bangalore city express derailed; Major accident averted
Kanyakumari: A major accident was averted after four coaches of Kanyakumari-Bangalore city express, derailed at Vellore district. There has been no death reports. A clear report is yet to be filed by the police department. The number of people injured in the accident so far has been varying according to different sources.
The accident happened 170 km from Chennai. The train was towards Bengaluru. The coaches derailed between Somanayakkanpatti and Patchur at 4.15 am, the Southern Railway informed in a statement. Alternate transport facilities have been arranged for the stranded passengers by the railways, according to railway sources.
11 trains through that route (Chennai-Bengaluru,Jolarpettai-Bengaluru and Arakonam-Bengaluru) have been cancelled after the accident. Train number 16614 between Coimbatore-Rajkot will be going through Tirupattur, Jolarpettai, Katpadi and Renigunta.
