Terming the recent tragedy at the Siachen Glacier as absolutely painful, Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar stated that there is no possibility of withdrawing troops from the world’s highest battlefield. The withdrawal is not a feasible solution.
"This incident is painful to me personally, but the solution that is suggested is not a proper analysis," said Mr Parrikar
To the question of whether Siachen can be converted into a peaceful mountain, the minister had said, “The decision on deploying troops on Siachen is based on the security of the nation.”
He said the loss of human lives on the Siachen had come down in recent years due to improved facilities.
The minister also stated that with improvement in facilities at the peak, the overall number of deaths have fallen.
"We have lost thousands of soldiers to get control (of the glacier)... The loss of life is less in the last few years," he told reporters during the International Maritime Conference.
"I don't find any loose ends. It's an avalanche... These are unpredictable in nature”, he said in response to whether an aversion of a tragedy was possible.
