Ranchi: Punjab Warriors have clinched their maiden Hockey India League title. They thrashed Kalinga Lancers 6-1 in the summit clash played in Ranchi last evening.
The Chandigarh-based outfit beat Kalinga Lancers 6-1 in the summit clash where Armaan Qureshi, Matt Gohdes and Satbir Singh scored a field goal each for the Warriors. The Punjab-based side was third time lucky as they had finished runners-up in the last two editions. They lost to Delhi Waveriders in 2014 and to Ranchi Rays last year. Punjab team’s defender Mark Knowles was named the Man of the Match while Player of the Tournament Award was bagged by Rupinder Pal Singh from the Delhi Waveriders. Earlier yesterday, Delhi Waveriders got the better of defending champions Ranchi Rays 2-0 in the bronze medal play-off match of the League.
