Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, who headed The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for almost three and half decades, has been promoted on Monday as the organization’s Vice President. The move comes in the backdrop of sexual allegations by a colleague still standing against Mr. Pachauri.
It is said that the new post of Vice President was created especially for him to ensure that he retains the executive control over the organization. Earlier when the allegations surfaced up, Mr. Pachauri had vacated the post of director general to finally let Ajay Mathur to take charge. The governing council had named Mathur as Pachauri’s successor in July last year.
According to an internal email circulated to TERI employees, Pachauri as Vice Chairman will continue to have executive powers. “This is to inform that Dr Ajay Mathur has joined as director general of TERI from today. The Governing Council of TERI has appointed Dr R K Pachauri as the Executive Vice Chairman with immediate effect,” the mail stated.
