Sanitation workers call off strike in New Delhi

New Delhi: The employees of the three civic bodies that resorted to strike due to non-payment of salaries have called it off and will resume work immediately.

The strike, which prolonged for almost a week was called off after the Delhi High court intervened and assured them of a solution to their problems.

Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath from the Division Bench in the High Court had requested the sanitation workers to abandon their strike as the government had paid them the salary for the month of January. On Wednesday, the issue of further arrears will be considered.

The Joint front of sanitation workers has assured the Bench of their co-operation to call off the strike and resume work.

“All the Safai Karamchaaris are now calling off the strike and resuming work immediately,” the Bench said, taking into consideration the submissions made by their union.
