Pune: The opening T20 International witnessed a stellar performance from the Sri Lankan seamers. The bowling side produced a stupendous performance on a bullet turf while the batsmen cruised easily to win a comfortable five-wicket victory over India. The three-match series commenced in Pune on Tuesday.

A second string Sri Lankan team chased down India’s 102 run targets after losing 5 wickets to the host and two overs remaining. Stand in skipper Dinesh Chandimal top-scored.

Despite getting a good start with pacer Ashish Nehra setting the tone by clinching two wickets in succession, the Indian side failed to create pressure on the Sri Lankans. C Kapugedara (25) and Milinda Siriwardana (21-not out) provided the required stability to chase the target.

Kasun Rajith, the debutant seamer, who was adjudged the Player of the match, made a prolific start to his career in the International T20. The seamer was partly responsible for the ripping through the Indian-top order batting side. He was also backed by all-rounder Dasun Shanaka. The duo shared five wickets between them.

Off-spinner, Ashwin Ravichandran, top scored with 31 runs without losing his wicket for India, while Suresh Raina scored twenty runs. The host team were then packaged for 19 overs. The Indian side opted to bat first.

With the win last night, the Sri Lankan team took a 1-0 lead in the series. The next match will be played on Friday at Ranchi, followed by a final at Vishakhapatnam on February 14th.
