Supreme court gives Delhi Govt directive on Millenium Bus depot
Millennium bus depot has been a contentious issue ever since its construction in 2010. The Supreme Court today asked Delhi Government to shift the Millennium Bus depot or make amendments to its master plan for retaining the depot.
The depot was constructed for the 2010 commonwealth games for the purpose of parking low floor buses. It was supposed to be for two weeks. The court was stern in its direction that the Delhi govt will have to take a decision on either of the two choices within a period of one year and no extra time would be provided.
The depot is located on the bank of river Yamuna and it has been long alleged by environmentalists that its location has environmental consequences as it is on the flood plains of Yamuna.
The SC bench that gave the directive was headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur.
