BJP now depending on celebrity candidates to make a mark in Kerala?
BJP has this time cast its wide net for the hunt of candidates with broad public appeal, in order to allure voters from all sects of the society.
With LDF considering actors Mukesh and KPSC Lalitha and the UDF eyeing Siddique and Jagadish, BJP too demands allocating a space for a celebrity in the candidate’s list.
Since Suresh Gopi, actor turned politician has eluded BJP’s request, BJP has selected Rahul Eashwar to try out his political future from Thiruvanathapuram, Kanjirapally or Thrissur. Though Rahul’s family has a lean towards Congress.
Actor Bheeman Raghu, cricketer Sreesanth, directors Rajasenan and Ali Akbar has already found a place within the BJP’s candidature list.
“Efforts are still on to convince Suresh Gopi to contest from Thiruvananthapuram though he is keen to contest to the Lok Sabha,” said an official of BJP.
“Mahatma Gandhi had visited our home in Kerala in the 1930s and even Indira Gandhi had asked my grandfather to do a pooja for her family. My first preference is Thiruvananthapuram,” said Rahul Easwar.
The BJP, is still in talk with Vellapally Natesan’s Bharatiya Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) trying to fix on the allocation of seats.
The first file of 22 candidates will be announced once the BJP Central Election Committee has accepted the candidates
The party will have to finalise on its candidates within a time of 10 days.
