The police in Brussels after investigation has identified the two suicide bombers who carried out the Brussels airport as brothers Khalid and Brahim El Bakraoui, the media reported. The brothers were Brussels residents with criminal records but have not been linked by local police to terrorism until now, broadcaster RTBF quoted an unnamed source as saying, Xinhua news agency reported.
The attacks on the Belgian capital’s airport and a metro station killed at least 34 people and leaving scores injured . An attack that has shaken Europe.
A third suspect, identified by police as Najim Laachraoui, 24 years old, is believed to still be at large following the bombing at Zaventem airport. Laachraoui is also suspected of involvement in the Paris terror attacks.
The brothers were known to police who suspected they had links with the terrorist network involved in the Paris attacks, NBC reportedly said. In 2010, Ibrahim was sentenced to nine years in prison by the Brussels criminal court for shooting at police with a Kalashnikov during a robbery.
