As Kolkata battles the flyover tragedy whose 100 metre section collapsed , leaving at least 14 dead and as many as 100 injured. The blame game has started as to who all are responsible for the tragedy.
The long-delayed 2.5-km Vivekanda flyover under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission was expected to tackle congestion in Burrabazar area – the location of one of the largest wholesale markets in Asia – up to the Howrah station, the gateway to the city.
As the tragedy unfolds , two ministers , one current and the other former are sure to be in the eye of the storm and could be responsible for this tragic event. They are Firhad ( Bobby ) Hakim Minister for Urban Development and the Minister for Municipal Affairs in the ruling TMC government, and Madan Mitra the former Transport minister , who was also in charge of the highways.
