Modi hopes to take Indo-US defence talks alongside Make In India scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed hope that discussions with the framework of the Defence Technology and Trade Initiative between India and US will progress along with his vision of Make in India in the defence sector.

During his meeting with visiting US Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter in New Delhi yesterday, Mr Modi also expressed satisfaction at the progress in bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.

On the occasion, Mr. Carter conveyed that the US views India as a close strategic ally and an enduring partner. He said, both sides are moving from the buyer-seller relationship towards a manufacturing partnership.

They also exchanged views on the regional situation, including in the South Asia and the Asia Pacific region.
