African national killed, police probing racism angle

A 23 year old African was killed allegedly by a group of people after an altercation late on Friday

A Congolese national was allegedly beaten to death by locals in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on saturday. The incident took place around 11.45 on Friday.

MT Olivia,  23 was murdered after a heated argument with three people at Kishangarh locality in Vasant Kunj.

The African tried to escape but was chased for about 20-25 metres before he was attacked with stones police said.

Another group of locals rescued Olivia and informed the police. He was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The locals, however claimed that they could not identify the perpetrators or say what had had led to the incident.

“A case of murder has been registered. We are checking CCTV footage to identify the accused,” additional deputy commissioner of police (South), Nupur Prasad said.

 What exactly led to the argument between Olivia and the group is yet to be ascertained.
Police said they  are investigating the case from all perspectives, including robbery and racism.

The Embassy of Congo has been informed of the incident.

Olivia lived in South Extension area and taught foreign languages at a private institute here.
