Amit Shah, Arun Jaitley defend PM Modi, slam Sonia Gandhi
As top Congress brass slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making AgustaWestland chopper deal scandal a poll issue, BJP leaders started hitting back today. Leading the government charge on the issue , Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in the Upper House that Prime Minster is entitled to speak on corruption both inside and outside the house and he cannot be gagged. Jaitley came in defence of Modi, when a Congress MP said the house that he has moved a breach of privilege motion against the PM for his controversial remarks on Sonia Gandhi.
The Finance Minister came down heavily on the Congress leaders who made ruckus in the parliament earlier citing the contradiction between the statements of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier, Modi had claimed in an election campaign that Sonia was indicted by an Italian Court in the controversial AgustaWestland scam. Shantaram Naik of Congress moved a breach of privilege notice in Parliament against it.
Congress leader Anand Sharma also said that the Prime Minister has contradicted his Defence Minister and as a prime minster there won’t be any distinctions between his statements inside and outside the parliament.
Meantime, in a election rally in Thrissur, Kerala BJP president Amit Shah said that the world knows about Sonia’s love for her son, “National Herald.”
Amit Shah’s statement came as a reply to Sonia Gandhi who talked very emotionally in a poll campaign in Kerala saying that she has a family in Italy and she is not ashamed of. “I have a 93-year-old mother I am not ashamed of,” Sonia said on Monday.
“I will die in India and my ashes will be immersed in India as the blood of my loved ones are mixed in this soil. I also know PM Modi will never understand my integrity, and him and the RSS will always abuse me,” she said .
