CBI to summon A K Antony in the AgustaWestland case

The CBI is likely to  summon former defence minister A K Antony in AgustaWestland case. The central probe agency has questioned IAF former chief  S A Thyagi  several times in the VVIP chopper case. It is learnt that the CBI has decided to question A K Antony after  it  got  some incriminating leads to link the defence ministry’s role in the chopper deal .

CBI sources confided to naradanews.com that when the deal was negotiated, Ahmed Patel, the political secretary of Sonia Gandhi had telephoned the then defence secretary Pradeep Kumar, several times.   CBI sources are claiming that they have got call records to prove this. Sources revealed that Tyagi has told CBI that the defence ministry was under tremendous pressure to execute the deal.

A K Antony had on Wednesday led the Congress defence in the Rajya Sabha when the AgustaWestland  issue was discussed. “Take action, prosecute us if there is any wrong doing, but do not threaten us, Antony taking on the ruling party members.

An angry Antony had  dared the Government to take forward the inquiry and  take action against Congress leaders if they are found guilty. He admitted that he had taken necessary action as soon as corruption allegations surfaced in 2012.

In his long political career,  it is for the first time that AK Antony, who is known as  ‘ Mr. Clean’ is being summoned by any investigating agency  for a corruption case.

In the debate  in the Upper House, a perception was created that the BJP is more interested in targeting Sonia, than bringing the guilty to book.

The Italian court judgment in the case refers to one ‘AP’ which the BJP says is Ahmed  Patel. Patel told the Rajya Sabha that he will end his political career if found guilty in the case
