Gujarat BJP leader arrested for alleged child molestation on flight
Sardarnagar Police arrested Ashok Makwana, a local BJP leader in Gujarat, and booked him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act
A local leader of BJP in Gujarat has been arrested after a 13-year-old girl accused him of harassing her on a flight from Goa to Ahmedabad on last Friday.
Ashok Makwana, a 41-year-old is a vice-president in the Gandhinagar Unit of the BJP.
Sardarnagar Police arrested Makwana, this morning and booked him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The victim, a 13-year old girl, was returning home from her uncle's home in Goa after her summer vacation, on an IndiGo flight on May 28. Makwana who was seated on by her side allegedly molested her. The girl narrated her plight to her parents, after reaching home and they lodged a formal complaint at the Sardarnagar Police station.
"We arrested the accused on the basis of travel documents collected from the airline," said BD Patel, a police official. Police upon checking the records from the airline found that the seat next to the girl was booked in the name of Mr. Ashok friend. The two men had exchanged seats after boarding the flight, according to the police.
The victim is said to the daughter of a vice-president of a corporate firm.
