Keenan-Reuben case: All 4 accused got life sentence
A Sessions Court here on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment four youths charged with killing of two youngsters Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez who attempted to prevent them from molesting their women friends five years ago.
The convicts are Jitesha Rana, Sunil Bodh, Satish Dulgaj and Dipak Pivar who had attacked Keenan Santos, and his friend Rueben Fernandes on the night of October 20, 2011, after they tried to harass their two women friends outside a restaurant in Andheri.
Special judge Vrushali Joshi sentenced the verdict in the presence of parents of Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez who were 24 and 29-year-old in the time of death.
Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who directed the prosecution in the case said that there were 29 witnesses and 5 eye witnesses including the two girls whom they tried to defend while being molested.
“There is direct evidence to show that the accused were eve teasing and molesting girls when the victims tried to stop it. This is a pre meditated murder as the accused had even threatened them with their life and had come back with weapons to attack them,” Nikam said.

According to the sources, the duo tried to stop a group who harassed the two girl where Keenan was killed on the spot. Reuben succumbed to injuries on October 30, 2011 in a hospital in Andheri.
The police had filed a 416-page charge sheet before the Andheri Metropolitan magistrate court on January 2016 and on October of the same year the court framed the charges against the culprits including murder, conspiracy and molestation.
The incident had made echoes across the nation, since the issue is solely related with the safety of women.
