The National Investigative Agency has filed charge sheet in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. The NIA has given clean chit to hindu right wing activistSadhvi Pragya Thakur. This will lead to her early release from jail
The charge sheet is reported to have said that the evidence produced against Colonel Purohit as fabricated and statements were taken under duress.
The NIA in its supplementary charge sheet claims that the investigation carried out by the Maharastra Anti Terrorist Squad led by late Hemant Karkare is flawed.
The agency has decided to drop charges under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA)against Purohit and all other accused. They will now be charged under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the chargesheet will be filed in the UAPA court in Mumbai.
The then special public prosecutor of the NIA, Rohini Salian has said that the NIA has asked her to go soft on the accused ever since Narendra Modi government came to power at the centre. After that she discontinued as the public prosecutor of the NIA.
