Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to rejig cabinet, changes in party too
After making a history in the North East by its thumping win in the Assam polls and set to form the first BJP government under Sarbananda Sonowal, The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set now to rejig the union cabinet and depute some leaders for the party with appointment of new general secretaries. The mantra of Modi to ministers is now to perform or perish
Amidst the buzz of a likely cabinet reshuffle the Prime Minister Narendra Modi held consultations with his two top leaders – party chief Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to chart out the future course of the government and the party. The possible changes comes close on the heels of the Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi government nearing two years in power.
According to various media reports , with Uttar Pradesh going to the polls in 2017 and BJP eyeing power in the crucial state ahead of 2019, The Union cabinet could see induction of more minority , SC , ST leaders from Uttar Pradesh . The party could also bring in more faces from North East Bengal.
The recent poll success could see new partners in the NDA. Many senior ministers are under the scanner and might be dropped for party work .
There is a buzz that Smriti Irani could lose the plum Human Resource Development portfolio. Further there is widespread speculation health minister J.P. Nadda, MoS environment (independent charge) Prakash Javadekar and minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises Giriraj Singh could be drafted back to party work.
The cabinet reshuffle has been doing the rounds for while now. Now it has become apparent as minister of state for youth affairs and sports Sarbananda Sonowal will soon resign and his place has to be filled as he gets ready to take over as the new chief minister of Assam.
