The Delhi Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered an FIR against former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit and current chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged 400 crore water tanker scam.
“FIR is against the previous Delhi government cdhief and present government head, rest let’s see what comes up during the investigation,” said Meena, Special Commissioner of Police,Special Commissioner of Police ACB.
ACB chief MK Meena said two complaints were received with regard to the scam and those named in the complaints include Ms Dikshit and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He said both Sheila Dikshit and Kejriwal will be questioned.
“The Lieutenant Governor’s Office forwarded AAP leader Kapil Mishra’s complaint. Mishra got an inquiry conducted and found out that the scam was during Sheila Dikshit government. In the second complaint, Vijendra Gupta alleged that the present government despite knowing about scam did nothing and continued the alleged contract,” he added.
The alleged scam came to light when Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, in June 2015, constituted a fact-finding committee to probe the irregularities in hiring some 385 stainless steel water tankers by the Delhi Jal Board in 2012, during Dixit’s rule.
While Delhi’s Water Minister Kapil Mishra had earlier registered a complaint against Sheila Dixit for her alleged involvement in the scam, BJP leader Vijender Gupta registered a second complaint against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for “suppressing” the committee’s report for 11 months.
Last week, Delhi’s Water Minister Kapil Mishra had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr Jung recommending either a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or ACB probe against Ms Dixit in connection with alleged scam.
Kejriwal welcomed the FIR but didn’t forget to drag PM Modi into the controversy. He said: “All probe agencies are under you. You’ve left the CBI, police and the ACB after me…. Conducted CBI raid on me, but did not find anything… I’m glad you’ve finally accepted that your fight is directly with me.”
Meanwhile, Congress Party downplayed the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s move to register an FIR against Sheila Dikshit in connection with the water tanker scam as ‘politically motivated’.
