Amber Heard files defamation charges on Doug Stanhope
Defamation charges against comedian Doug Stanhope
Comedian Doug Stanhope accused Amber Heard of blackmailing Johnny Depp, in order to get over with the divorce proceedings her way. The law suit filed at Arizona Superior Court claims that he was been manipulating and diverting the attention from the truth which actually lead to the failure of the marriage tie between Amber and Johnny Depp.
After the incident at the court when Heard walked in to the courtroom with a bruised face putting forward a temporary restraint order against Depp, granted by the judge, Doug Stanhope, the comedian wrote down a guest column for The Wrap accusing Heard of faking the violent domestic blows in order to have a divorce with the star.
Heard blew back to the column through legal terms, calling the penned content to be defamatory and demanded withdrawal of the statement. The column is still on air but with a parenthesis that says Heard claims the story to be unequivocal with a link to the full column penned originally by Stanhope.
Heard has taken a step forward of suing the comedian and few others who have been accused of defaming the actress adding to the emotional distress.
"Stanhope is a close friend of Johnny Depp and, as part of a coordinated effort, wrote a highly defamatory article about Ms. Heard, filled with completely false, highly defamatory and very hurtful statements," says Heard's attorney Charles Harder.
He also added, "Ms. Heard seeks the maximum possible jury award, and will donate 100% of the proceeds from the lawsuit to Chrysalis, a domestic violence shelter in Arizona, in an effort to counter the setback made to women by the defendants’ defamatory article and related wrongful acts."
The indictment also gave a complete list of the “campaign of violence” that Depp has inflicted on Heard.
“Depp has hit and kicked Heard on numerous occasions, has thrown objects at her, at one point nearly suffocated her to the point where she feared for her life,” states the complaint. “Heard repeatedly returned to Depp, despite his verbal and physical mistreatment of her, hoping optimistically that the man she married would change his behavior. Each time Heard returned, however, within months, the cycle of substance abuse and violence repeated,” said the law suit.
Heard claims to have reached her last breaking point after the violent attack post the death of his mother.
The law suit also claims, "Depp has hit and kicked Heard on numerous occasions, has thrown objects at her, at one point nearly suffocated her to the point where she feared for her life. Depp is an alcoholic and drug addict, and these violent episodes occurred mostly after Depp had relapsed into a cycle of substance abuse. His drug and alcohol abuse has increased dramatically in recent years, as has his violent behavior."
It was further added, "Heard repeatedly returned to Depp, despite his verbal and physical mistreatment of her, hoping optimistically that the man she married would change his behavior. Each time Heard returned, however, within months, the cycle of substance abuse and violence repeated."
A source told PEOPLE, "Johnny has been an emotional mess".
The 52 year old actor has been touring through Europe with his band, Hollywood Vampires having done performances at Sweden and Denmark.
"The concerts and the tour are good for him," opened up the source. "He doesn't want to let his fans down. It's the best distraction."
Depp is planning to spend the summer with his two kids, Lily-Rose (17) and Jack (14).
"He talks about his kids a lot and misses them. He is making plans with the kids this summer. They are planning a trip to France."
