Day after Christina Grimmie killing, shooting erupts in Orlando gay club
Police say there are mass casualties, but confirmed that the gunman is dead
Several people were shot a gay night club in Orlando, Florida, early on Sunday. Police initially said "multiple people" have been shot. Unconfirmed reports say atleats 20 people have been injured in the firing that lasted 15 to 20 minutes.
Police say the gunman who was holed up in the club had been killed. There were unconfirmed reports that he was holding several party goers as hostages.
Police have surrounded the club. The Fire Department has for the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Hazardous Material Team to the spot.
The shooting occurred at 2 am local time, at the Pulse Night Club in down town area of Orlando. Police have asked people to "stay away from the area".
The popular night spot for gays was packed with weekend revelers. A post on the page of Pulse Orlando urged patrons to "get out and keep running".
Rosie Feba, who was at the club with a friend told Orlando Sentinel that the shooting began around closing time.
"Everyone was getting on the floor,. I told her I didn't think it was real, I thought it was just part of the music, until I saw fire coming out of his gun."
Feba also said while she and her friend ran out, they helped a man who had been shot escape.
The shooting comes a day after 'The Voice' star Christina Grimmie was shot dead while she was signing autographs after a concert at the Plaza Theater in Orlando on Friday.
