Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai has resigned citing health grounds. The resignation comes barely a day after he dared the Center to prove corruption in the AAP Government’s ambitious app-based Premium Bus Service Scheme, saying that he was ready to go to Tihar jail if the allegations are proved.
Delhi’s Public Works Department and Health Minister Satyendra Jain will take charge of Transport Ministry of the national capital.
On Monday, the AAP leader said that he along with officials of the Transport department will go to the office of Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Government and ask the agency what corruption they have unearthed despite the fact the scheme is yet to be launched.
“No corruption took place in this scheme. The decision to notify the scheme was taken after several rounds of meetings and agenda was tabled before the cabinet after proper discussion,” the Transport minister had said.
The AAP Government during the second phase of the odd-even scheme had announced the premium bus service would be made operational from mid-June.
“I want to challenge Modi government, CBI and ACB to prove corruption in bus aggregator scheme and I am ready to stay in Tihar. They cannot prove corruption of single paise.
“Central government is trying to paralyse premium bus service scheme. Anti corruption branch is unnecessarily troubling our officers,” Rai added.
The premium bus service, which was rolled out last month, had to be revoked after LG Najeeb Jung voiced suspicion that the scheme was meant to “favour one company”.
