Hindu Janajagrutha Samithi leader arrested in connection with Dabholkar murder
After three years CBI has arrested one person in connection with the murder of rationlist Narendra Dabholkar. Virendra Tawde , a doctor was arrested on Friday late night. He will be produced before court today.
Virendra Tawde is associated with Janajagrutha Samithi an organisation associated with the obscure Hindu fsringe group Sanatan Sanstha. The organisation has come under scanner for the murder of communist leader Govind Pansare
CBI has arrested Virendra Singh Tawde in an ongoing investigation of a case related to murder of Dr Narendra Dabholkar.
“He will be produced today around 3pm in designated court, Pune. Investigation is continuing,” CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh said on Saturday.
A medico by profession, rationalist Dabholkar, 68, was gunned down by two – assailants near his house on August 20, 2013.
CBI took over the case from Maharastra Police on 9, May 2014 on the orders of the Bombay High Court.
Dabholkar’s campaigned against black magic for several years. His efforts bore fruit when Maharashtra became the first state in the country to enact a full-fledged law against black magic and other superstitious practices. The law was passed after his murder
