In terms of exercise you can try HIIT cardio or resistance training. Both are better for weight loss than zumba.
But our body works on homeostasis. If you change your routine so that Zumba is now part of it, the body will change its energy consumption and hunger signals to reflect that change. Now if you lose weight (in the beginning it will just be water, mostly) and reach your ‘target weight’ and then close your zumba classes, you will probably still be as hungry as before. But not using as many calories. So you will have a gradual weight gain so that in a few months you are back where you started.
So will you lose weight permanently with Zumba? That depends on your state of mind. Are you ready to be the person who is always active, eats fresh, nurtures a positive state of mind and deals directly with emotional problems? Then yes. But if you do all this, and dislike Zumba, you can just as effectively join a cycling group or a martial arts class or skating, whatever you love enough to continue. You will still lose weight and keep it off too. It is not the Zumba, but the love of movement, and the permanence of change that helps you keep the weight off.
Just 1 hour of Zumba will help you lose 100s of calories. All you have to do is to dance on the beats of song. It’s a enjoyable dance workout. You’ll not like it for first few sessions but try to enjoy the dance and soon you will start loving your zumba sessions.
