Photos of an idol of Swaminarayan donning of the RSS uniform in a school in Laskana village in Surat has has kicked up a controversy. The idol dressed in the RSS’ trademark khaki shorts and white shirt and holding the national flag started circulating in social media .

The temple authorities said someone had gifted them the outfit a few days ago, and they often dress up their idol in different clothes.
“We do not have any other agenda. We did not know that it will create a controversy,” a priest at the temple Swami Vishwaprakashji, quoted as saying by PTI.
The controversy started when the school opened Monday and students spread the word about the idol wearing the uniform.
After the news spread, several followers of Swaminarayan tried to enter the school premises on Wednesday, but the secutiry guards stopped them as the school had called in security in view of the photo of the idol in Sangh uniform gone viral.
According to the reports, RSS had organized 20 educational and physical training camps for Its volunteers at Swaminaranyan Mission school, run by Swaminarayan Gurukul Vidyalaya at Laskana village in Surat district.
“RSS leaders had not changed the dress but the Swamiji who is taking care of the school had change the dress of lord Swaminarayan idol,” RSS Sangh Sanchalak Dr Jayenti Bhadeshiya quoted as saying by Indian Express. He was the chief guest of the event
The BJP state president Vijay Rupani said, “I am really surprised. If it was done, I do not approve of it.”
Gujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki demanded criminal action against “RSS and BJP” for the act.
Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela said, “What do you want to prove by dressing up the god in khaki shorts? I pity those who have done that. Today, you have dressed the Lord in RSS uniform, tomorrow you will dress the idol in BJP’s uniform. This is very unfortunate.”
Surat city Congress president Hasmukh Desai said, “The incident is really condemnable. We are also followers of Swaminarayan Sect and our religious feels had been hurt by the incident.”
