Legendary boxer Muhammad Ali dead
Legendary former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali is dead, NBC news reported. Ali 74, died at a Phoenix-area hospital, where he had been admitted few days back due to respiratory illness, a family spokesperson confirmed to NBC News.
“After a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease, Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening,” Bob Gunnell, a family spokesman, told NBC News.
Earlier, speaking to some personal sources, his wife Lonnie has said that he will die soon.“It could be more than a couple of hours, but it’s not going to be much more. Funeral arrangements are already being made,” she said.
Considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight in boxing history, Ali has remained active in charity programs and continued to travel internationally despite his health problems. Recently he had come forward opposing the Republican front runner of American Presidential race Donald Trump’s statement that Muslims should not be allowed inside US.
We as Muslims have to stand up to those who use Islam to advance their own personal agenda,” he said.
His last public appearance was in April at an event to raise funds for charitable organisations in Arizona.
