The God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar has found himself in midst of another controversy. This time it involves his son Arjun Tendulkar . Arjun had been selected for the West Zone U- 16 inter- zonal tournament to be played in Hubli.
The furore is over Arjun’s selection over the prodigious batting talent called Pranav Dhanawade who recently shot into the limelight scoring a staggering 1009 runs . The knock put him won him kudos from even Sachin. the cricketing icon had sent him an autographed bat praising his batting feat.
Cricket fans across social media are venting their ire over Dhanawade’s non-inclusion in the squad, while questioning the selection of Sachin’s son Arjun. They felt that being a star kid, Arjun was favoured instead of Pranav.
Moreover, Arjun’s selection has come under scrutiny as he did not fare well while playing against North Zone with both the bat and the ball. He had a miserable day out with the bat . He was out in the first over without scoring. He bowled 12 overs conceding 52 runs and could take only one wicket. In the second innings too he did not shine. Hence his selection has caused such a stir and has attracted much criticism.
This is not the first time Tendulkar Junior’s selection has come under criticism. When he was picked in the Mumbai Under-14 team in 2014, there was chatter that he was selected because he was the son of the cricketing legend.
Maharashtra Cricket Association had rewarded Dhanawade with a monthly scholarship of Rs 10,000 for 5 years after he achieved the feat.
Air India too had offered a Pranav a place in their team. Then it looked as if that one player among several thousands would be able to play in the domestic cricket calender.
But that dream is still far from reality after the euphoria.
