Muslims in Malabar will start Ramadan fasting on Monday as confirmations were made by Qazis. Confirmations came after the Ramadan crescent was sighted at Kappad on Sunday evening.
Qazis included Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal, Syed Mohammed Koya Jamalullaili, K V Imbichahammed Haji and Panakkad Nasir Abdul Hayy Shihabudheen, Kasargod Qasi and Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary K Alikkutty Musliyar, All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar, Syed Ibrahim Khaleelul Bukhari, PT Abdul Kadir Musliyar, N Ali Musliyar and Chithari Hamza Musliyar.
The Qazis declared the starting of the holy month on the basis of the sighting of the new moon at Kappad beach in Kozhikode district at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday.
Mujahid sections and Jamaate Islami will also start fasting from Monday.
The Qazis, while announcing the Ramadan opening, spoke to the believers about respecting the sanctity of Ramadan by engaging in prayers and extending helping hands to the people in need, who are deprived of many amenities including food and clothing.
They urged the Muslim community to keep away from the activities including extravaganza, which denigrates the spirit of the Holy month and actively engage in charity, meant to financially help the underprivileged people.
Meanwhile, the rest of India waits for the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan. The rest of India will be observing fasts from tomorrow most probably though families and people have geared up all the preparations for the month of Ramadan.
