Of the many things that made Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican candidate for the US president election a controversial figure are his utterances against immigrants, especially Mexicans. He must have hoped to trigger the sentiments of the people and to reap political gains by going against the immigrants. But the billionaire businessman would not have thought this will cost him business partners.
One of the business partner he lost was Geoffrey Zakarian, the celebrity chef and restaurateur.
Geoffrey Zakarian, the restaurateur is also a television personality and author.
Donald Trump had entered into a deal with Geoffrey Zakarian to build a luxury hotel in Washington. But Zakarian backed from the deal after Trump has made atrocious comments against Mexicans.
Los Angeles Times quoted Zakaraian as saying that Trump’s statement would make it difficult to get the staff and clientele necessary for the success of the restaurant.
Trump has filed a breach of contract law suit against Zakaraian for pulling out from the deal.
But Trump claims that he has nothing to do with hotel development and his son Donald Jr. and Ivanka are running this. Therefore he claims that his personal comments are not going to have any impact on hotel business.
Another restaurateur Jose Andres who also had a business deal with Trump has also withdrawn citing his statements would make it difficult to run business with him.
Trump during the initial stages of his run up to Republican party’s candidature has said “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”
After this announcement Zakarian and Andres informed that they are cancelling the deal. Trump immediately filed cases against them. And seized their money deposited with the new project. Jose Andres $ 250000 and close to $500000 from Zakarian’s company.
