It’s 22nd July and the singer of “Same Old Love” Selena Gomez has just turned 24. On this special occasion, we take you down the super star’s memory lane.
Selena was born in Texas on 22nd July to Richardo Joel Gomez and Amanda Dawn Cornett. Amanda was only 16 when she gave birth to Selena and the couple had a rough time as they worked hard to provide for her. At the age of 5 Selena’s parents divorced and Selena was under her mother’s custody, who continued to help her.
Selene Gomez, along with Demi Lovato, was selected for a kid’s show Barney and Friends. This was her first step towards stardom. It was through this show that she learnt everything Selena said later.
Around this time Selena Gomez started acting in small roles in movies such as Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. She also made a guest appearance in an episode of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
After having appeared in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Selena auditioned for many Disney shows and appeared multiple times on different shows. She got a break in Hannah Montana and Lizzie McGuire. Eventually, she was offered the lead role of Alex Ruso in the Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place. She recorded the theme song “Everything is not what it seems”, for the same Disney series. Because of her fling with Nick Jonas at the time, she also appeared in the music video of “Burnin Up” which was recorded by Jonas Brothers. Through the years she sung many songs for Disney, namely, Cruelle de Vil and Flay to your Heart for Tinker Bell. She was also selected to play the lead role in the movie Another Cinderella Story.
Selena won the Writers Guild of America and continued to climb the ladder to her success by starring in movies. She recorded many songs as well, like “Tell me Something I Don’t Know” and played a supporting role in Horton Hears a Who!. Along with Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, Selena also struck a deal with Hollywood Records.
Selena played a role in Monte Carlo and The Muppets. She carried on with making appearances in Disney shows. However, the news that grabbed the most amout of attention was her relationship with Justine Bieber, a singer who was relatively new to fame at the time.
Selena released an album Come and Get it. She was one of the voice-overs for the movie Hotel Transylvania. Because her series on Disney had ended, she now concentrated on making her way into Hollywood and to make it big in the Music Industry. During this time she starred in the movie Spring Break. Soon after, Disney released a special series of The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex. Her single “Come & Get It” made it to the Billboard Hot 100.
Amongst all the success and failure, Selena was diagnosed with Lupus and has to undergo chemotherapy, which put her career on hold. But the misery didn’t stop here, there was later news that Selena Gomez and Justine Bieber broke up in 2014.
Despite all that Selena has been through the fighter managed to get up, dust herself and give life another shot. She was chose to voice-over for the sequel of Hotel Transylvania. She released the song “Good for You” which made it to the top five on Billboard Top 100 in the US. Selena release the album “Revival”. Her songs including The heart Wants What it Wants, Can’t Keep My Hands to Myself, Same Old Love, Kill ‘Em With Kindness and many more have become a hit since. Her Appearance and performance in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, also took the world by surprise. After having defended Taylor Swift through her Kimye feud, Selena and Taylor also paired up to record Bad Blood, which also shot through the Billboards.
