Renowned Pakistani philanthropist and chairman of Edhi Foundation, Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away at the age of 92 in Karachi on Friday night after a prolonged ailment, Dawn reported.
Edhi’s family announced his death and his son, Faisal Edhi, asked all people to “pray for the departed soul” of his father. “My father was suffering from severe kidney problems and both of his kidneys had failed,” his son told AFP.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his sorrow at Mr Edhi’s death and said he prayed that he would have “the best place in paradise”
“We have lost a great servant of humanity,” Sharif said. “He was the real manifestation of love for those who were socially vulnerable, impoverished, helpless and poor.”
Edhi migrated from Gujarat to Pakistan soon after the partition of British India in 1947. Edhi and his wife Bilquis started the Edhi Foundation in 1950.
He will be buried in Karachi on Saturday.
