Rajdeep question on settling down evoked sharp response from Sania Mirza

Sania made Rajdeep Sardesai to apologise, this is how it happend

Sania Mirza's answer to a question that many women who had scripted success stories in their professional life used to face made television anchor Rajdeep Sardesai to apologise.

The occasion was after the release of her book ' Ace against Odds'. Rajdeep Sardesai was interviewing Sania Mirza about her and life for India Today TV.

During the course of the interview he asked the ace star about when is she going  to settle in her life. Quick came the answer from Sania. " You don't think I am settled?"

This forced Rajdeep to explain his earlier question. And that put him in a spot.

“What I mean is that you don’t talk about retirement, about raising a family, about motherhood, what’s life beyond tennis is going to be?"

A visibly upset Sania retorted saying  "You sound disappointed that I’m not choosing motherhood over being number one in the world at this point of time. But I’ll answer your question anyway, that’s the question I face all the time as a woman, that all women have to face – the first is marriage and then it’s motherhood. Unfortunately that’s when we’re settled, and no matter how many Wimbledons we win or number ones in the world we become, we don’t become settled. But eventually it will happen, not right now. And when it does happen I’ll be the first one to tell everybody when I plan to do that."

This made Rajdeep to apologise. " I must apologise, I framed that question very badly. I promise you, you’re right, I would never ask this question to a male athlete."

But Sania did not leave it at that. At the end of the interview that how she would like to be remembered and Sania's said her achievements will set precedent  and that "no girl is asked at the age of 29 as to when she is going to have a child when she’s number one in the world."

Ace against odds was released on Wednesday by Shah Rukh Khan in Hyderabad.
