At least 14 people were killed when a bus fell into Sagar Project canal in Nayakangudem in Khammam, Telangana, in the wee hours today.
The private bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Kakinada when the mishap took place.
Twelve passengers were injured in the incident. The bus was carrying 26 passengers, that had started Miyapur in Hyderabad around 10 pm on Sunday.
Emergency services officials with fire service personnel rescued the injured, among those, some were found trapped inside the bus.
The survivors, according to media report, told the police that negligence by the driver led to the accident.
The bus driver was driving the vehicle at a high speed and applied sudden brake on reaching the bridge, passengers said, that overturned the bus and it fell into the canal.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the accident. Rao directed officials to ensure best possible treatment to the injured.
