VP Singh Badnore to take oath as Punjab Governor today
He will also be the administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh
Veteran BJP leader VP Singh Badnore will take oath as the new Punjab Governor in Chandigarh on Monday. He will also be administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice SJ Vazifdar will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Badnore at Punjab Raj Bhawan, an official spokesman said.
Badnore, 69, will take charge from Kaptan Singh Solanki, who also holds the charge of Haryana Governor.
Badnore was a four-time legislator in the Rajasthan Assembly. He was an MLA during 1977-80, 1985-90, 1993-98 and 1998-99. He was the state irrigation minister in his last term.
He was a member of the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004 and from 2004 to 09. Badnore was elected to the Rajya Sabha in July 2010.
The government on 17 August chose Governors of three states and Lt. Governor of Andaman Nicobar Islands.
Najma A. Heptulla was appointed as the Governor of Manipur replacing V. Shanmuganthan.
Najma was the Union Minister of Minority Affairs before she resigned last month. She will serve as the 18th governor of Manipur.
Banwarilal Purohit replaced Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya as Governor of Assam.
Delhi's BJP leader Jagdish Mukhi has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
