A driver is reported to be killed when two New Jersey Transit buses collided Friday morning at Newark intersection, nine others were injured in the incident report latest media reports.

It is not clear what has led to the collision and also which bus the dead driver was driving.Ambulances and fire brigade have started rescue operation soon after.

According to PIX 11.com, eye witnesses reported at least 20 to 30 people rescued from the buses.

“It’s devastating,” said a passers by who stopped at the site. “People just need to respect the road. Take your time, be late. You are where you’re supposed to be at the time you’re there because that’s where God had you,” he was quoted as saying to local media.

Eyewitnesses say devastation was huge, and fire officials said at least 4 persons were seriously injured. Travellers have criticized over-speeding as the cause of the collision. But officials are yet to confirm these claims.

According to a report by ABC 7, the buses rammed into each other at 6 am local time here. The incident happened at at North Broad Street and Raymond Boulevard. One bus tumbled over and has been broken into two parts, added the media reports,

Following the incident, the NJ Transit has issued an alert to all the commuters that its services at downtown Newark will experience delays/detours.

It added that, Broad Street & Raymond Blvd in Newark is closed due to bus accident. All buses are detouring to University Ave. Buses may experience delays, said the alert send via Twitter.

According to NJ Transit, the incident was “due to a bus accident by Raymond Blvd & Broad St, Newark.”
