The iPhone 7 is slated to launch in the fall of 2016 – around the mid-September mark.
Traditionally, when a new iPhone is launched, it takes the place of the previous year’s flagship; in this case the iPhone 6s.
Beginning of 2017, we will have iPhone 7, 7+, SE, iPhone 6S, 6S+, 6, 6+, 5S. iPhone 6 still sells for 42,000 – 45,000 INR.This would bring down 30+ margin. Apple may very unlikely discontinue iPhone 5S, as it’s proven to be the most affordable iPhone for Indian market. Both iPhone SE and iPhone 6 will be selling at very close price.
The iPhone 6s is currently available for $649 or Rs. 62,000 in India, for the 16GB model. The likes of Amazon and Flipkart sell it for as low as Rs.46,000.
The iPhone 6 (16GB) is available for $549, or Rs.52,000 and is available online for about Rs.35,000.
After the launch of the iPhone 7, the iPhone 6’s MRP would drop to about $449, or Rs.39,000. It would be available online for as low as around Rs.25,000, taking into account a consistent discount of about 25-30%. But there are chances that they won’t drop the price much, since they have the iPhone SE selling at a lower price point than the iPhone 6. If it does, the price of the iPhone SE would go down as well, to as low as Rs.22,000. Everything would be crystal clear by September.
Once the iPhone 7 is launched, the price of the immediate predecessor is expected to drop by at $100… In India, they generally keep a difference of ₹10000 between the two models.
Right now the official prices at Apple Store for 6S are 62k, 72k and 82k for 16gb, 64gb and 128gb respectively.
And that of iPhone 6 are 52k, 62k and 72k.
So, apple is expected to keep the upper limit same and the price will drop for the predecessors by at least 10k.
NOTE: The price mentioned above is as listed on the Apple’s website and so the one you will have to pay at the Apple Stores. The price for the 6s itself has dropped much on the online retailers and will drop even more after the release of iPhone 7.
