A Delhi police constable was shot dead while he was trying to stop a robbery bid in in the Shahabad area late on Friday night.
The constable, Anand, who was on duty at at sector 5 police chowki in Bawana, was believe to be attacked by three miscreants when he tried to stop them from robbing a couple around 9 p.m at the Samosa Chowk.
He was first shot at and then attacked with helmets when he did not let go of the robbers.
Police are trying to identify the attackers, who they suspect local criminals, by scanning CCTV footage that were installed at the incident site.
Locals called the police who rushed the the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Police said the constable was shot in his chest at close range and a case has been registered at the Shahbad Dairy police station.
